After an alleged conspiracy theorist declined to answer questions from Victoria Police when she was arrested for not wearing a face mask, a tense confrontation took place in a Victorian shopping centre.
Footage obtained by 7NEWS.com.au appears to show the man and woman declining to give their information to two Victoria Police officers – before questioning the state’s existing face masks legislation.
When asked if she had a reason not to wear a mask in public, the woman answered, “I don’t have to tell you that.”
“I’m not prepared to give them (her details) to you… no, we are not committing an offence,” she responds to the officer.
Again, the officers, Senior Constable Phil Gibby and Constable Jared Cavanagh, ask for their details.
“The issue is you are committing an offence. You are required by law to provide a name and address,” the officer states.
The pair refuses again, saying they aren’t legally obliged to do so.
“It’s actually not Commonwealth law, you don’t know what you are talking about it… I know what I’m talking about, I am telling you the truth,” she responds.
“Am I committing a crime?” she asks.
“Yes,” the two officers respond in unison.
It’s at this point that the officers inform the pair they’ll be placed under arrest if they don’t provide any identification.
Instead, if they attempt to apprehend her, the increasingly angry woman can be heard threatening to sue police for “gun kidnapping”
