In more than two and a half months Victoria has reported its lowest rise in new cases of coronavirus.
On Saturday the state’s health department reported 37 new infections.
That will be the lowest increase since 28 new cases happened on June 25.
In the 24-hour reporting period up to 8 pm Friday, there were also six new fatalities reported.
That takes death toll to 716 of the state and past 800 of the national toll.

Minor amendments to Stage 4 restrictions will be enforced on Sunday from midnight.
They will allow an extra hour before curfew, an extra hour of approved physical exercise and a “singles bubble”
Further restrictions will be relaxed on September 28 in Metropolitan Melbourne given the average daily case over 14 days is below 50.
It has not yet been revealed how many of today’s 37 cases are in Melbourne and how many are in metropolitan Victoria.
Melbourne’s total of 14 days going into Saturday was slightly above 65.
