The Victorian Premier extended the state of emergency and disaster status for another four weeks.

On Sunday 2 August, Victoria entered a State of Disaster at 6 pm, which coincided with the implementation of Stage 4 restrictions.

Daniel Andrews said on Sunday that both will be extended again for another four weeks and will end on October 11 at 11.59pm.

“It underpins all the different rules. It underpins taking those safe and steady steps,” he said.

Police and emergency services minister Lisa Neville said the state of crisis would not be in effect for “a moment longer than it needs to be.”

Since March 16 Victoria has been under a state of emergency which has been extended more than six times.

The State of Emergency is the “legal instrument “that requires regulations to be made including mandatory face masks, guidelines on work plans for COVIDSafe, density restrictions in pubs and cafes, or a person with the virus who needs to be removed from home.

On Sunday 2 August, Victoria entered a State of Catastrophe at 6 pm, which coincided with the implementation of Stage 4 restrictions.

It was brought in during the State of Emergency, with everyone sides able to work together.

The State of Emergency allows police to use extra powers to ensure that citizens comply with directives for public health, which ensures that various legislative acts may be suspended.

This involves police being able to impose curfew for the city from 9 pm to 5 am.
