A two-year – old girl is believed to have been sexually assaulted at a west Sydney play centre.
On Sunday afternoon, emergency services were called to the facility on Mulgoa Road in Penrith, after the child was found injured.
Mother of the girl had been looking for her before her was found in a storeroom by a member of the public.
Officers attended, and a crime scene was identified.
Initial investigations indicate an unknown man had sexually assaulted the girl.
The case has been referred to the information-appealing Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad.
Anyone who has been about midday at the play centre on Sunday and may have observed suspicious activity is urged to proceed.
Investigations are still under way.
