US President Donald Trump says his personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani was tested positive for COVID.
The President stated in a Sunday afternoon tweet, US time, that the former mayor of New York had been tested positive. Giuliani has travelled extensively to the swing states in recent weeks in an attempt to help Trump subvert his election defeat.
Trump expected a swift recovery from Giuliani.
“Get better soon Rudy, we will carry on!!!” Trump wrote in his tweet.
Giuliani, 76, did not respond immediately to a request for comments.
Former New York Mayor has been spearheading Trump’s harrowing attempt to reverse his November 3 election defeat to Democratic President-elect Joe Biden through a heap of litigation.
This job has brought Giuliani to numerous US states, such as Michigan and Arizona, where he has urged state lawmakers to stop certifying Biden’s victory.
Earlier on Sunday, local time, Giuliani appeared on Fox News to discuss his legal issues in a variety of states on behalf of Trump.
Trump and several of his close associates have turned a blind eye to the recommendation of public health authorities to wear masks and avoid crowds to stem the spread of respiratory disease, which has risen to unprecedented levels in the United States as winter approaches.
Giuliani, who built an international profile as the “America’s Mayor” for his leadership after the attacks of September 11, 2001, was met with growing legal difficulties during the Trump administration.
Federal prosecutors in Manhattan have investigated Giuliani’s business activities in Ukraine, and two friends, Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman, have been charged with campaign finance violations.
Giuliani was not criminally charged and denied wrongdoing. Parnas and Fruman pleaded not guilty.
