Thousands of Melburnians are going regionally for the weekend after months of living under lockdown restrictions.
The first weekend since the ‘Ring of Steel’ was taken down has been marked by a Friday night traffic jam.
The contentious 25 km radius and the boundary between Melbourne metropolitan and regional regions were lifted last Sunday, enabling people to travel freely within the state.
Those who had previously tried to cross the border without a legitimate excuse faced a fine of $5,000.
In a “huge relief” for families, South Australia will open its frontier to Victoria within a month.
