A three-year-old girl has died in hospital after she was struck by a car on the Gold Coast on Sunday.
Luna’s mother, Jessica Feeney, paid tribute on social media to her “beautiful baby girl.”
“Unfortunately at 9.03pm on the 22nd of December we let our beautiful baby girl go, surrounded by her family in the arms of her mummy and daddy!” she wrote.
“Our hearts are completely broken … Fly high my gorgeous blue eyed, red headed unicorn!
“Ride those dragons baby … until we meet again!”
Almost $50,000 has been collected for the Queensland family in less than 24 hours.
The amount was increased to $73,573 on Wednesday, with family friend Clare Hamilton launching the GoFundMe campaign with the goal of raising $30,000.
She said the purpose of the campaign was to help the Matenga family “alleviate any stress they have about money”.
“If this situation has taught us anything it’s that money is nothing and time is everything,” she said.
“We never thought this would happen to anyone, let alone someone so close to us.”
Police claim the three-year-old is believed to have crossed the road between two parked cars and to have been struck by Toyota Corolla heading northbound around 9 a.m.
