Woolworths adds to its list of places where cash as a means of payment would no longer be accepted.
In an attempt to help CBD customers get in and out of stores quicker, the cashless trial is being carried out in Metro stores in Sydney and Melbourne.
Metro stores on Melbourne’s Bourke St and Elizabeth St, and Sydney’s North Sydney, Manly and York St are cash-free now.
The list will be extended to Metro stores in Yarraville and Caulfield North in Melbourne and Roseberry in Sydney on October 12.
“As more and more customers choose to pay with cards, we’re trialling all electronic payments in a small selection of Metro stores which currently see very few cash transactions,” a Woolworths spokesperson told 7NEWS.com.au.
“We understand cash remains an important payment option for many of our customers and it continues to be offered in all Woolworths Supermarkets and the majority of our Metro stores.
“We will closely monitor the feedback from our customers during this trial.”
