A mother from Melbourne has warned that coronavirus not only affects elderly adults, but reveals that her six-month – old baby is battling the virus.
Since spending two nights in the Casey Hospital paediatrics unit, Nikki shared pictures of her daughter online.
After her father came into touch with someone who tested positive, Baby Stevie contracted the virus.
She is now at home recovering.
“Although she is home, safe now in her own bed, we are not out of the woods yet,” Nikki wrote on Facebook.
“She still needs to be closely monitored over the next few days.”
Her warning comes after Victorian Health Minister Jenny Mikakos revealed one-quarter of all infections in July were people in their 20s.
“We know that this is not an older person disease,” Mikakos said.
“It is a highly contagious virus that can strike anyone in our community regardless of their age, regardless of their circumstances, and it is important that we work together to protect each other.
“Twenty per cent of our patients are aged under 50 and it is an issue that is striking many families across Victoria.”
