A father allegedly jumped with a shark into the water to save his son after it had pulled him off their fishing boat.
The 10-year-old was pulled out of the 6 m boat at Stanley, northwest of Tasmania, about 4 pm after earlier reports that a shark was circling in the area.
When the boy ‘s dad jumped into the sea, the shark allegedly swam off.
The boy was taken to hospital with wounds from head, chest and arm.
He is confirmed to be in a stable state.
Tasmania Ambulance said the pair were about 5 km from the sea. A alert given on Twitter about 2.30pm said there was a 10 km shark off Stanley coast.
In a statement police said, “please be advised there has been a large shark sighted in the Stanley area. If swimming or undertaking fishing and other marine activities please take necessary precautions.”
