After she and her daughter were trapped in rough surfing at a popular Queensland beach, brave early morning surfers desperately tried to rescue a mother but weren’t able to save her.
The 34-year-old was swimming with her daughter in the unpatrolled First Bay at Coolum Beach, on the Sunshine Coast, on Monday morning when the pair were pulled out to sea, in a horrific start to the school holidays.
It’s believed that the 11-year-old girl had made it back to shore until they noticed the woman floating in the water a short time later. Surfers dragged her to shore and started performing CPR with off-duty lifeguards for about 30 minutes.
Emergency services were called up at 7.15am to Jubilee Esplanade.
