Much-loved Allen’s-branded lollies RENAMED over Controversial Names

The new names of two of its much-loved Allen’s-branded lollies have been announced by confectionery manufacturer Nestle.

In June, the company made the decision to change the Red Skins and Chicos names due to “overtones” that are out of step with the values of the company.

For Native American people, Red Skins, a red coloured raspberry flavoured chewy lolly, is also an offensive slang term.

Meanwhile the Spanish translation for “boy” is Chicos, a chocolate flavoured jelly in the form of a baby, which can be offensive to people of Latin American descent.

They will rebrand the two Australian icons as Red Ripper and Cheekies.

GM Confectionery Chris O’Donnell said the company has an “unwavering commitment to upholding respect for our friends, neighbours and colleagues”.

“We hope Australians will support the evolution of these two much loved lollies – while the names are new, the lollies themselves remain unchanged.

“We will keep pack changes simple to help lolly lovers find their favourites easily.”
