While reportedly passing through a coronavirus checkpoint in Victoria, a Melbourne woman has sparked controversy when refusing to answer police questions.
Eve Black is seen behind the wheel of a car in a video posted to Facebook as she appears to be heading towards a police checkpoint.
A police officer is heard questioning Black for her reason for driving when she exits, to which she responds: “Did I disrupt the peace?
“No,” the police officer can be heard answering. “I’m just asking what your reason for travelling is.”
Instead of sharing the information, Black says: “Well, I don’t need to tell you that. I don’t know you.”
“So where have you come from today,” the officer responds, to which Black says: “I don’t need to answer your questions”.
“Have I committed a crime?” she’s then heard asking the officer.
The police officer at the checkpoint then stops asking questions, and informs Black that she should proceed to go through the checkpoint.
Black is ecstatic after driving off, praising their apparent accomplishment.
“F*****g yes!,” she says. “I feel so good!”
When sharing the video on Facebook, Black said she was “nervous as heck, but I had God with me as well as a loving friend.”
“I just read from the sheet and he could obviously see it wasn’t worth the trouble,” she wrote.
“No fine, drove straight out of Melbourne, they took no info from me.
“No licence, no questions of theirs were answered.”
The video has been viewed thousands of times, with many social media users slamming the move as “stupidity”.
“It’s because of people like you that my family that work in emergency medicine are put in danger,” one person said.
“It’s because of [people like] you that I’ve been unable to see my grandchildren and children when they are going through a personal crisis alone.”
Another commenter said Black could think “what you like about government and world conspiracies”.
“But listen to the real men and women on the ground fighting to keep these people alive and [who] are seeing the devastation of the virus with their own eyes,” another person said.
“Does it take for you to lose someone close to you to see that this sh** is real.
“There are rules in place to protect us all…
“The government is restricting some aspects of our life so we can hopefully get our life back to normal as quick as possible.
“Do you get that they are actually fighting to get our freedom back for us.”
