When he inadvertently set his home on fire, a man’s romantic candlelit proposal went terribly wrong – leaving the couple’s house totally ruined.
After buying a ring for his one year girlfriend Valerija Madevic, 22, Albert Ndreu, 26, spent two weeks meticulously preparing the perfect proposal.
He converted their home in Sheffield, UK, using 100 tea lights and about 60 balloons, and spelling out “Marry Me? “With the candles of delicacy.
He even had on ice a bottle of bubbles and on loop a “non-stop romance” playlist, ready to surprise Valerija as she finished her job.
But tragedy struck when Albert left the unattended set-up to collect Valerija from work – returning to witness the burning of their home.
“I was planning the proposal for over two weeks – I kept struggling to find the right thing to do to mark the special moment,” Albert said.
“I wanted to do something from my heart even if it didn’t go exactly as planned.”
It didn’t stop Albert seizing the moment and getting down on one knee in the midst of the flames, despite his big moment going horribly wrong-and Valerija said “yes.”
“I was so worried about everything going wrong I never imagined I could set the house on fire,” he said.
“But it will always be an unforgettable day for us and a story which will be amazing to tell our children.”
