A lucky prospector has stumbled on a rare discovery in Western Australia that could be worth more than $30,000.
The natural gold nugget was discovered near Kalgoorlie, about 595 km east-northeast of Perth, on Wednesday morning.
The nugget weighs slightly more than 280 grammes (10 ounces).
Experts claim that it is 95% clean, indicating that its worth is valued at around $26,000.
However, due to the rarity of having a piece of this size and purity, collectors should be prepared to pay a lot more.
Images of the nugget were posted to the WA-based gold buyer and metal detectors specialist The Prospectors Patch’s Facebook page.
“WHAT A FIND!,” the caption reads.
“This 10oz nugget was recently found in the Goldfields region. On today’s gold price, the find would be worth around $26,600.
Not bad for working for a day! Since the late 19th century , people have been prospecting around Kalgoorlie for gold.
