Long lines have formed hours after the Premier made an announcement about compulsory masks at art shops in Melbourne.
Customers were seen lined up at Spotlight stores across the city on Sunday afternoon with many purchasing material to make masks.
Some crowds were stretched out the door and into the street.
It comes hours after prime minister Daniel Andrews announced those in Melbourne and when leaving the house for food , exercise, work or education and care, the Mitchell Shire will need to be in a mask.
Anyone who flout the law will get a $200 fine.
Unless the order was not followed, he warned there might be another level of restrictions.
The rule will be enforced on Wednesday from 11.59pm to allow the residents time to buy or make a face cover.
There will be some exceptions for people with a medical reason, children under the age of 12, those with a professional excuse or when it is not feasible-for example, when running.
“However, you will still be expected to carry your face covering at all times to wear when you can,” Andrews said.
