In the crucial battleground state of Georgia in the US Presidency campaign, Joe Biden has taken a narrow lead.
The former US Vice President snatched the lead at around 4.30am on Friday local time (Friday evening in Australia) after trailing President Donald Trump for days in the crucial race.
By just 917 votes, Biden is ahead of Trump.
According to CNN, if Joe Biden wins this state, the sitting president basically has no way of keeping the White House.
In the electoral college system, the state of Georgia is worth 16 votes, which would raise Biden’s electoral vote count to 269 from 253.
Donald Trump currently has 214 votes in the electoral college.
To win the US presidency, a candidate requires 270 electoral college votes.
Biden’s numbers have risen in Georgia as absentee ballots have been counted from large Democratic counties.
The source of the most recent votes, which helped put Biden in the lead, was Clayton County.
The county counted ballots during the night, with Biden winning roughly 85% of the vote there.
In Arizona or Nevada, if Biden retains his lead, he will succeed in winning the presidency.
For Biden, the state of Pennsylvania is also in play, as Trump’s lead there has significantly narrowed.
