After 37 years behind bars, following his conviction and a trial based on a sketchy jailhouse informant and unreliable bite mark research, DNA testimony has cleared a Florida man of rape and murder charges decades later.
Last month Robert DuBoise got released from prison.
A hearing on Monday before Hillsborough County Circuit Judge Christopher Nash resulted in an order wiping out prior convictions and life sentence, and eliminating DuBoise from the state’s list of sex offenders.
“This court has failed you for 37 years,” Nash said.
“Today, it has finally succeeded.”
“There are really true-hearted people in these offices now,” added DuBoise, dressed in a suit and tie he just recently got.
“It’s been amazing. I’m just very grateful to all of you.”
