Sydney’s COVID epidemic has intensified, with 12 new coronavirus cases detected.

There are currently 17 cases in the Northern Beaches after a significant number of people have submitted their tests.

Residents in the Northern Beaches Local Government Area have been asked by NSW Health to stay home and work from home for the next three days.

This area includes people from the Spit Bridge to Palm Beach.

“Work from home and remain at home as much as possible,” NSW Health said.

“Do not visit friends or relatives in aged care facilities, avoid unnecessary gatherings, keep to your household group, avoid visiting high-risk venues including clubs, restaurants, places of worship and gyms.

“Avoid unnecessary travel outside the Northern Beaches area.”

Residents outside the location have also been warned to stop excessive travel to the Northern Beaches.

It comes after five initial cases have been identified in the area, with another detected in an airport transport worker living in south-west Sydney.

On Thursday, the authorities instructed those who had been to a variety of locations to get a COVID test and isolate before a negative result had been returned.
