A one-year-old girl died after being hit by a vehicle in a driveway in western Sydney.
The fatal accident happened when a 40-year-old man chatted with a neighbour and the boy walked in front of a car.
Emergency services rushed to the townhouse complex in Kent Street, Blacktown, after news that a car had hit a child just before 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
NSW Police said Blacktown Local Area Command officers found the girl in a critical state.
She was treated by emergency paramedics at the scene before being transported to Westmead Children’s Hospital, where she died.
The driver of the vehicle, a 40-year-old man, was treated for shock at the scene by paramedics.
He was taken to Blacktown Hospital for compulsory examinations, the police said.
A crime scene has been set up and the police investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
