After being crammed into an Australia Post letterbox on the Gold Coast, a small kangaroo joey has been saved.
After rumours that an animal was inside, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) officers were called to the post box at Woongoolba just after 6.40am on Friday.
They found Joey stuck inside when they arrived.
QFES says that with the post box keys, Australia Post was soon on the scene and the baby was out in no time.
QFES said in a Facebook update that the furry creature was now in the possession of a wildlife caregiver.
Queenslanders were quick to slam the actions of whoever stuffed the joey inside the box.
“Whoever did this is cruel and sick in the head,” one said.
“The cruelty of some people is beyond imagination,” another said.
“I am so pleased the little joey is safe now.”
Another social media user labelled the offender a “lowlife grub”, thanking QFES rescuers and Australia Post for freeing the little one from his ordeal.
The RSPCA is investigating the incident.
