A former staff member on The Ellen DeGeneres Show reported that the atmosphere of the programme could be compared to the movie The Devil Wears Prada amid reports of “toxic” workplace.
According to The Sun, the unidentified camera assistant recently called for an interview on the Australian radio show, Stav, Abby & Matt, and recounted appearances on the famous talk show and encounters with Ellen DeGeneres.
The ex-staffer said: “I worked there for a little over a year. It‘s kind of like The Devil Wears Prada. Everyone is trying to make it to the (end of a) year. It’s just a badge of honour to have that and have it on your resume.”
The former employee continued and claimed that people were not allowed in the same room as the comedian.
“Most people are told, ‘When Ellen enters the room, you and your entire crew need to leave’,” they went on. “Sometimes her bodyguards come forward first and you kind of see them and you know to leave and that’s it.”
Although the 62-year-old was hit with harsh “toxic” allegations from the office, the unnamed source said Ellen actually doesn’t have any idea of “what’s going on in her own show at all,” adding that she really has “no idea” who anyone is on set.
While they claimed that workers were frequently told that for every employee’s job there is a “line-up” and that “if you don’t like it here, you should quit.”
