After Year 9 students were asked to drop their pants during an adventure training session, two teachers from The Southport School (TSS) on the Gold Coast were “stood aside.”
Headmaster Greg Wain said that last month, students were engaged in a proposed blackout competition, where the boys were expected to remove a shoe or clothing item, chuck it into a dark room, and work together to locate it and put it back on.
With night vision goggles, a teacher oversaw the operation.
Mr Wain said, however, that one of the teachers wanted to raise the difficulty by telling boys to remove a shoe and their pants each time.
Mr Wain said the removal of trousers was never meant to be part of the exercise in any circumstances.
“This changed activity was not authorised and, understandably, several boys objected to removing their trousers and doing the activity in their underpants,” he said.
