The pandemic has been a very punishing time for the senior residents in nursing homes across the country. As if the looming fear of catching a merciless virus is not enough, these seniors have also been reeling under the forced isolation caused by lockdowns and travel restrictions, write ilovemydogsomuch.
Amidst this heart-wrenching tale, the residents of one nursing home have found solace in dogs!
With families being unable to meet their senior relatives, the Hebrew Home in Bronx, New York, decided to cheer up their residents with the help of some furry visitors. Every morning, various staff members bring in their dogs to comfort the lonely residents throughout the day. The dogs play and cuddle with the love-starved residents and usher a rare sense of joy in them even in these hard times!
For 85-year-old Harriet Krakowski, these visits are only the thing helping her cope with the prolonged isolation. The poor woman has been longing to hold her 2 great-grandkids who were born during the pandemic, and having dogs by her side has truly comforted her. Their affectionate companionship helps her stay hopeful.
The staffers have been quite surprised by their dogs’ growing fondness for this routine, with many dogs feeling “off” on the days they don’t meet their favorite senior residents. It’s almost like they sense the pain of the seniors missing their loved ones! Dogs have once again proved that they can work wonders with their unconditional love and loyalty toward humans in need!
