The younger brother of US President Donald Trump, Robert Trump, died in New York after being hospitalised, the president said in a tweet. He was 71.
“It is with heavy heart I share that my wonderful brother, Robert, peacefully passed away tonight,” Mr Trump said in a statement.
“He was not just my brother, he was my best friend. He will be greatly missed, but we will meet again. His memory will live on in my heart forever. Robert, I love you. Rest in peace.”
Mr Trump visited his brother Friday (local time) at a New York City hospital after White House officials said he was critically ill.
He said his brother, shortly after the visit, was “having a hard time” with an unspecified illness.
The cause of death for Robert Trump was not revealed.
Robert Trump started his career on Wall Street working in corporate finance but later joined the family business, managing real estate holdings as Trump Organization’s top executive.
Donald Trump once described his younger brother as “much quieter and easy going than I am”, and “the only guy in my life whom I ever call ‘honey’.”
