The police were called to the home of a man from Adelaide accused of trying to gas himself and his three-year – old daughter just hours before the incident was heard by the court.
Shaun Mate, 43, was charged with attempted murder after he reportedly locked up with his daughter and a gas tank in a bedroom at his home in Eden Hills.
After hearing a hissing noise from another room just before midnight, Mate’s wife made a hurried request to the police in August.
She and a six-month – old daughter of the couple were in another room safe.
The prosecution said in Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday that Mate ‘s wife had told him earlier that day that their marriage was over.
Also allegedly Mate, an IT specialist, had bugged his wife’s phone and hacked her emails.
The court heard that, just hours before the incident, police had been called to the family home but left without intervening.
The magistrate has refused Mate’s bail appeal.
