Victoria Police officers are being questioned for treating a confrontation with a woman who did not wear a face-cover.

During the video, which was posted to social media on Monday night, two police officers are chasing a young woman on Wellington Street during Collingwood’s inner-city suburb.

Moments later the male officer is seen holding her by the throat before pressing her against a wall, while she is heard shouting, “you’re choking me”.

The boyfriend of the woman who is filming can also be heard telling the officers she has a medical reason not to wear a mask.

While the 21-year-old did not receive a fine for flouting the compulsory mask rule, as she later told police that she had an exemption, she was charged with resisting and assaulting officers.

Her boyfriend told 7NEWS that he understood that “everyone’s got to wear their mask”, but “some people have exemptions”.

“The way that they came up to us all intimidating is itself enough,” he said.

“They’re meant to make us feel protected, right? We don’t feel protected.”

The woman admits she gave him the finger when the policeman first asked why she hadn’t got a mask.

Yet it says what happened next was unpleasant and unnecessary.

“When they’re just looking for a fight and just looking to fine people and just looking to be bullies, that’s not lawful,” he said.

“She then became physically aggressive and kicked a female officer to the upper body,” police said.

“The woman continued to resist arrest and had to be taken to ground before being arrested.”
