Woolworth ‘s customer spoke of her disbelief after making a find on the back of a recent purchase.
Posting on Facebook, Sydney shopper Susan said she was “lost for words” after checking the best-before date on a packet of Woolworths Macro Corn Chips.
While it was purchased on October 22, 2020, the best date before the date is as September 21 , 2019, making it 13 months out of date.
Woolworths spokesperson apologised for the mistake, adding that it appears to be an isolated issue.
“I am lost for words,” she wrote.
“Purchased from Winston Hills store yesterday, 20/10/20. Use by date 21st September 2019!
“Shame on you Woolworths for selling stock so out of date.”
Food Standards Australia states that foods should still be safe to eat after their best before date has lapsed “but they may have lost some quality”.
“We understand your concern and we appreciate you taking the time to let us know about this,” the spokesperson said.
“Our store teams continually check our shelves to rotate the stock and make sure only the best products are on display.
“Unfortunately, it seems like this one was missed in our regular checks.
“Thanks for bringing this to our attention and we’ll be following this up with our team at Winston Hills to make sure all the other stock on shelves are within the date.”
