Two South Australian fishermen are alive after being stranded at sea near Salt Creek for more than five days.
Tony Higgins, 57, and Derek Robinson, 48, left Coffin Bay on last Thursday’s 10-meter wooden-hulled fishing boat named the Margrel.
On Friday night, they reported engine trouble to a friend, and advised that they would redirect to Kangaroo Island.
The friend raised the alarm on Sunday, more than 36 hours later when no word had been heard from the men, sparking a large-scale aerial search that covered more than 100,000 square kilometres.
Robinson ‘s friends said he has no sailing experience yet Higgins is a former skipper of a fishing vessel.
