A Perth man, 84, has been so severely beaten in his own home that he has been put in an induced coma.
Emilio Lombardi is now in hospital fighting for life while his neighbours in East Cannington are afraid to leave their homes.
The assault started on Mr Lombardi’s driveway on Henry Street, when on Sunday night he went outside to investigate a disturbance.
Two men were thought to be between the ages of 25 and 30 and then beat him down with a mirror broken off his car.
WA Police released graphic photographs on Tuesday showing the injuries to Mr Lombardi, taken shortly after the attack.
The elderly man is soaked in blood in the images, and he has a large gash on his back.
The violent incident seems like a random, unprovoked attack.
Cannington Police Acting Detective Sergeant Alexandra Hill said there was nothing taken in the attack and there seemed to be no justification for it.
She characterised the attack as a “cowardly, disgusting and disgusting act”
“This is an 84-year-old man who’s lived in this suburb for 40 years … and been brutally assaulted in his front yard,” she said.
“They are horrific, horrific injuries that this man has sustained to his face.
“People should be able to feel safe in their own homes.”
“I went to see what’s going on and there was all blood along the front of the patio,” one neighbour said.
“I looked inside and there’s blood and guts inside the house.”
